Our Cleaning Process

rug cleaning

Experts recommend having your oriental rug cleaned by professionals every two to three years. Thorough cleanings prevent grit, dirt and soil from building up in the foundation which can damage to the oriental rug’s fibers and will restore the natural luster of the pile fibers.

At Khazai Rug Cleaning we pride ourselves in our expert oriental rug washing process.

Initial Inspection

During our inspection we look for problems such as color run, tears, holes, dry rot, worn areas, stains, fading, damaged fringe, unraveling edges, discoloration, moth and carpet beetle damage, previous repairs, animal hair, and pet stains. Knowing these details provides our experts at Khazai Rug Cleaning with the information needed to determine the correct process and rug cleaning services unique to your rugs. This is an essential step in the rug cleaning and repair process at Khazai Rug Cleaning. Also, our expert knowledge allows us to identify all aspects of your oriental rugs to determine the best treatment and cleaning techniques. We note the many factors such as the rug condition, rug type, age, pattern, origin, rug foundation, knotting type, fringe, color and fiber content. Carpet and dry cleaners just don’t have this specialized knowledge.

Your grandma was right when she would beat the rug outside.Dusting an oriental rug is the single most important step in the cleaning process.

Oriental rugs collect dirt, grit, pet dander, dust mites, pollen, and dust in the foundation over time, which can cause premature wear to your rugs and can be harmful to your health.  Before an oriental rug can be cleaned, the dirt and dust must be beaten out of the foundation from the back. If this dirt and dust are not removed prior to washing the rug, it turns into a muddy substance that dries and will cause premature wear from the inside out, damaging your rug. Additionally, this substance is much harder to remove after improper cleaning. At Khazai Rug Cleaning we use a special dusting machine made for this purpose and the process is repeated until no grit or dust comes out. Most other cleaning companies do not remove this embedded dirt and dust which means that the rug is not really clean. We have re-cleaned many rugs that were previously taken to “professional” cleaners and removed enormous amounts of dirt.

The best way to deep clean a handmade, wool rug is to flood it with water. Our initial rinsing process, otherwise known as “Flooding,” helps make all dirt looser and all dried materials more liquified.  We do this by completely submerging the entire rug. This is similar to the centuries-old method of washing area rugs by immersing them in the cool water flow of a mountain-fed river.

When it comes to actually cleaning your oriental rug, we use completely natural pH balanced detergents that are best suited for your particular rug. Your oriental rug is then scrubbed thoroughly, pulling out the remaining dirt and odors which are trapped inside the fibers. Washing a rug in this manner restores the natural luster of the rug fibers. Next, we rinse the rug again. After cleaning the entire rug we then rinse the rug with fresh water to remove any remaining detergents. We use rollers to flush out the majority of the detergent(s) from the rug.

Extraction is the process where we remove the remaining water from the rug after the cleaning and rinsing process. Using a powerful extractor, we remove most of the moisture from the rug as quickly as possible.

Drying/Fringe Grooming

The rugs are air dried in a rack or laying flat using fans.Next, we touch up the fringes. After washing and drying sometimes the fringe has some mineralization or has dried and looks unkempt. We wash and rinse the fringe to bring it back to life.

Finishing The Rug

Finishing removes any remaining soil on the tips of the rug fibers caused by wicking. Finishing makes the rug fibers feel incredibly soft & fluffy, the colors of the rug really “POP!” out and protects the rug from re-staining.

Final Inspection

The final step in our cleaning process is the Final Inspection. This is where a rug is thoroughly checked to make sure that all of the services were correctly performed and the rug meets our high standards of excellence.

Khazai Rugs guarantees all cleaning services. During the final step, the 5th generation owners in the rug industry will inspect every rug to ensure it meets expert standards. If any part is not up to the standard, your rug will go back through the cleaning process again.
