Your rug is the biggest air filter in your home

Did you know that your rug is

the biggest air filter in your home?

Just like how you commit to change your air filters regularly, you’d better have your rugs cleaned as well. Rugs might function as a considerable amount of germ and pollution if not cleaned adequately. It’s highly recommended not to trust the clean surface of the Rug. That is because a massive amount of dust mites, pet urine, pollen, and bacteria are deep-stuck in the Rug’s foundation, and regular home cleaning methods are not effective on them. So you’d better have your precious rugs cleaned by a rug expert at least every 12 months.

    Shoe Debris

About 75% of people don’t remove their shoes when they walk on a rug. That means bringing in paint flecks, lead dust, animal waste, fertilizers, and–all of which stick to your shoes. According to EPA, about 80% of our exposure to pesticides happens indoors due to tracked-in contaminants

    Pet Hair and Stain

65% of American families own at least one pet. While regular vacuuming is a must, pet hair and stain can get stuck into the rug’s fibers. Moreover, pets produce dander, which can cause allergic reactions. They leave other traces such as saliva, urine, feces as well. Rugs trap all these pollutants, preventing them from spreading through the air.

    Allergens

If you have a record of allergic reactions to pollen, you should pay more attention to your rug health status. The good news is that rugs attract pollens to different degrees. Therefore, they prevent the microscopic irritants from entering your body. But remember that just like HVAC, your rugs need to be cleaned regularly. About 50% of illnesses are caused or exacerbated by indoor pollution. Therefore, you’re advised to get your rugs professionally cleaned at least each year.

    Food Stain

About 90% of Americans have claimed that they drop food on their rugs while eating. That throws a party for the mold and mildew to grow inside your rug’s fibers as it provides the food and moisture they need. Surface-cleaning might make the rug look ok but the food crumbs that are deep-stuck should be deep cleaned by a professional.

    Indoor Dirt

Shoe debris and pets make up 80% of the dirt inside your house, especially on the rugs. It would be best if you take off your shoes in the house and train your pets to stay away from the rug.

How Often Should You Get Your Rugs Cleaned?

Since the rug is the main component of your living space, it’s essential to maintain its pristine appearance. Moreover, you want your rug to be free of dust mites, pet hair, odors, urine, pollens, and bacteria for a more hygienic home.

Needless to say, if you keep pets in your home, deep cleaning your rugs would be significantly more important. And if you keep wearing shoes indoors, you’d better know they act as a free ride for dirt and germs to your home. Keep in mind that the deep-stuck dirt in your rug will eventually lead to permanent wear patterns and severe health problems for your family. That’s why we recommend you to have your rug cleaned by a professional at least once a year.
