1. The first step in getting mold out of a rug is to begin drying it out the best you can.

2. As soon as you’ve dried it entirely, remove the mold and mildew debris from the rugby vacuum cleaning.

To remove that awful mildew smell, you can also use one cup of white vinegar for every two cups of water and add them to a spray bottle and spritz the carpet creating a misty layer.

3. If the mildew persists, you can also use hydrogen peroxide as an alternative for getting the resistant mold and mildew out of your rug. You should also consider that the ratio of hydrogen peroxide to water must be 1 to 5. However, this is a great way to clean your moldy rug and get the musty mildew smells out as well.

4. To sum up, make sure to dry your rug out by raising the stained area so that both sides can get air, and never apply it to direct heat.
